Welsh Senior Open and Masters Open Championships 2011

 

Congratulations to Kev Clarke on some excellent results in this years Welsh Open.

In the senior category Kev was up against some of the UK's top heavyweight fighters and being the oldest in his category by a number of years, came away with a hard fought bronze medal.

He then entered the Masters heavyweight category and won a gold medal.

These latest results fully justify Kev's selection to represent Wales in the upcoming Commonwealth tournament.

Keep up the good work Kev. You are dpoing the Imperial club proud.

 

Pontardulais mini mon and kyu grade Championships 2011

Congratulations to Jay Ashby, Joe Davies and Liam Isles for their recent results at the Pontardulais mini mon and kyu grade competition. They all won medals and Liam especially fought well against grown men of higher grades.

Well done all.

 

 

Welsh Closed Championships 2011

Congratulations to Kev Clarke on winning a gold medal at the recent Welsh closed championships.

Kev was by far the oldest competitor in his weight category of +100kgs.

With this win Kevin gets automatic selection for the upcoming Commonwealth judo tournament to be held in Cardiff in January 2012.

Well done Kev form all at Imperial Judo.

 

 

 

Fiona Jones

 

Fiona has had an outstanding couple of years and all her hard work has been rewarded by her selection for Great Britain for Portugal, Lisbon World Cup for Women, 11-12 June 2011

and 1st European Universities Judo Championships Sarajevo, Bosnia and
Herzegovina: June 23 - 26, 2011

This is a massive achievement and is a step closer to realising her dream of competing at the 2012 Olympics.

Well done Fiona. All at Imperial judo are very proud of you.
                          

 

 

Gendros green belt and under competition 2011

Well done to all the children who took part in the Gendros green belt and under competition.

        Lloyd and Libby Dawkins both took bronze medals and Mathew Davies also took bronze in his first competition.  Max Humphries won a hard earned silver in the green belt category. 

Jay Ashby continues his gold medal winning ways with emphatic wins over all his opponents.

Pembrokeshire Judo Championships

Well done to Lloyd, Libby, Rhys, Nicholas, Joe, Faye and Adam on all winning medals at the Pembrokeshire Judo championships. It was the first competition for most of the juniors and they did extremely well.

A special mention must go to Jay Ashby who was outstanding and won all his 5 fights by ippon and winning a gold medal against some stiff competition.

The seniors who competed also did very well as it was the first competition for most of them.

Will Parry and Liam Isles gave very good accounts of themselves against much higher grades and Rhys Williams won 3 out of 5 fights and just missed out on a bronze medal. This was a very tough group and they all acquitted themselves well.

In the heavier weights Luke Thomas fought extremely well against much higher grades beating a couple on the way to winning a bronze medal.

Vladimir Sidarenko won a gold medal in the 90kgs+ category with a typical bullish display, winning all his fights by ippon.

Well done to you all. You are a credit to Imperial Judo on and off the mat.

 

 

English Senior Open , London Universities Championship and NHC Open Championships Feb/March 2011

cWell done to Fiona Jones on winning a fantastic gold medal at the recent English Senior Open.

She again beat her main rivals for a well earned gold medal. This is an excellent result for Fiona and should now make the GB selectors sit up and start to take notice of her results over the last couple of years. Olympics 2012 here we come.

Also congratulations to Fiona on winning back to back gold medals in the universities championships and Northern Home Counties Open on the same weekend.

Well done and congratulations Fiona from all at Imperial Judo.

 

 

Peter John

A truly remarkable achievement was reached by one of our members in 2011.

Peter John has been practising judo for 50 years and is still going strong.

Peter is a fantastic advertisement for judo and is probably the oldest black belt still practising regularly in Wales.

Well done Peter. Keep it going and put all of us "youngsters" to shame.

 

 

World Cup /Senior Welsh Open

cWell done to Fiona Jones on winning a fantastic gold medal at the recent Welsh Senior Open.

Fiona beat her main rivals in the British squad and won all her fights with ippon.

This win comes a week after Fiona was picked to represent GB at the upcoming 2010 Senior Women's World Cup in Birmingham in October.

This has been another fantastic year for Fiona and she continues to do the club proud at national and international level. This is due to all the hard work that she has put into her judo over the last 2 years.

Well done and congratulations Fiona from all at Imperial Judo.

 

 

British Masters Open 2010

Well done to Dan Jones On winning a silver medal in his category at the British Masters Championships. Dan just keeps getting better with age.

Also well done to Kev Clarke and Chris Jones who fought very well in two of the toughest categories of the tournament.

Kev fought some very big judoka and only lost his bouts by very small margins. Chris did very well and was unlucky not to win a medal, after not competing at senior level for a number of years.,c

Senior European Cup, Istanbul

cWell done to Fiona Jones on winning a hard fought bronze medal at the senior european cup held this year in Istanbul, Turkey.

Fiona just keeps getting better and better and bigger things are surely destined for her in the near future. Well done Fiona.

 

 

Gendros Mini Mon Championships 2010

Well done to Jay Ashby, Georgia Thomas, Joe Davis, Iwan Armstrong and Isaac Thomas on winning four gold medals and one bronze at the recent mini mon competition at Gendros Judo club.

 

 

Welsh national championships May2010

 

 

Congratulations to Fiona Jones upon winning double gold medals. She won her weight category and also won the open weight category. This is an outstanding achievement and Fiona must be congratulated on all the hard work that she has put in to her Judo career.

Also Harry Viggers also fought very well and came away with a hard fought bronze medal

Welsh Senior Open And Welsh Masters Open 2009

 The Imperial Judo Club would like to congratulate Fiona Jones, Kevin Clarke and Dan Jones on their recent success at the Welsh Senior Open and Welsh Masters Open ,which were held at the W.I.S. in Cardiff.

Fiona won two gold medals, one in her weight category and another in the category above her. Kevin also had dual success. He won gold in his category and then went onto to win a bronze medal in the open weight division. Dan Jones had to give a bit of weight away in the division that he was entered in and came away with a bronze medal.

Well done to all.

 

 

Welsh Mini Mon Championships 2009

Congratulations to Jack Caswell upon winning a silver medal at the recent Welsh mini mon championships at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Jack Had six fights in total and won 5 to reach the final.

Scottish Senior and Junior Open Championships 2009

Congratulations to Fiona Jones upon winning the Scottish junior and Scottish senior open. This is an outstanding achievement and Fiona must be congratulated on all the hard work that she has put in to her Judo career.

Heart of England Championships 2009

Congratulations to Fiona Jones upon winning a gold medal in her respective weight at the Heart of England judo championships.

These championships are a high calibre competition attended by the some of the best judoka from Britain and abroad. Any medal won at this competition is a great achievement. To win gold is fantastic.

Well done Fiona.

 

 

British Senior Open, Leon Cadet Open and Northern Ireland Open

After a very respectable showing in the British senior open and an excellent performance against some of the best judoka in the world in Leon, Fiona competed in the Northern Ireland senior and junior open.

She took gold in the junior section (u20's) beating all her main rivals in the British squad along the way. This puts her in pole position for European selection.

She then went on to win a silver medal in the senior women's event, beating older and more experienced judoka to the medal positions.

Imperial judo congratulates Fiona and we hope that she get's selected for the junior Europeans on the back of these recent successes.

 

 

Welsh Closed Championships 2009

 

Congratulations to Fiona Jones and Kevin Clarke on winning a gold medals in their respective weight categories at the recent Welsh Closed Championships. Kevin also won a bronze in the open weight category.

Congratulations must also go to Harry Viggers on winning a silver medal in his junior boys category and also to Rob Randell who fought well on the day despite suffering from an ankle injury. Well done all.

 

 

Sens International Championships,France

Congratulations to Fiona Jones on winning a silver medal at the Sens international championships in France. This was an excellent result for Fiona who has been training very hard with us over the last 12 months

 

 

Womens Super World Cup 2008

Congratulations to our newest member, Fiona Jones ,on her selection for the senior women's Great Britain squad for the recent Super World Cup championships. This is a huge achievement and will no doubt lead to more international honours for Fiona.

 

Fiona started her judo career as a junior with Imperial and then left to train at various other clubs. She has now returned as a senior member and her judo has improved immeasurably over the last few months. This is evident with her recent string of results which have mostly ended with her winning gold in all her recent competitions.

 

 

British Masters 2008

 

Congratulations to Dan Jones on taking a bronze medal in his age and weight category at the recent British Masters championships. Dan is one of our newest black belts which he achieved at the young age of 59 and this is  the first time that he has entered the British Masters. Well done mate.

 

 

North Wales Closed Championships

Congratulations to Harry Viggers on winning a gold medal in the boys -34kg at the recent North Wales championships. He won most of most of his fights with ippon and won by waza-ari in the final. He showed good judo and deserves a big well done from all at Imperial judo.

 

 

British Schools Championships

Congratulations to Lauren Craven on winning a silver medal at the recent British Schools Championships. Lauren had to move up a weight on the day and ended up fighting girls who were taller and heavier ,making her medal win even better.

Welsh Closed Judo Championships 2008

 

Imperial Judo club junior members had an excellent day at the recent Welsh closed championships and they all represented the club admirably on and off the mat.

Harry Viggers won a gold medal in the boys u34kgs after fighting extremely well all day. Gareth Thomas won a bronze medal in the boys u38kgs and a special mention must go to Max Humphreys who moved up a weight on the day and won a bronze medal in the boys u34kgs.

All coaches and members of the Imperial Judo club are extremely proud of the way that these young members fought and behaved on the day of the competition.

In the senior section Rob Randel won a silver medal in the men's u81kgs division. It was Robs first time entering the Welsh closed as a senior and he beat some good players to win his medal. His judo just keeps getting better and better.
